Session Overview

Safe, Seen, Supported
Building Foundations for Belonging and Learning

This session is about the ordinary moments that decide whether a student feels safe enough to learn. We start with the behaviour that’s easiest to misread, then look at how trust is built quickly, how relationships are mended when they break, and what protects children who are struggling. It closes with the adults, because none of this is sustainable in a team that isn’t looking after itself.

By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Read behaviour as communication, and respond to the story underneath it rather than the surface
  • Build trust quickly with a student who is still deciding whether you’re safe
  • Use small, repeated signals that tell a student she belongs, even in brief or passing moments
  • Repair a relationship after you’ve got it wrong, and let a child see you recover
  • Use the 4Ps of relational resilience to work out where to put your effort with a particular student
  • Look after each other, so a staff team can sustain this on a hard day as well as a good one
