These slides were developed for multi-school INSET in September 2025
Here’s the session overview:
Safe, Seen, Supported
Building the Foundations for Belonging and Learning
When children feel safe, seen and supported, they’re ready to learn and to thrive. This session explores how strong, consistent relationships help us meet the needs of every learner, especially those navigating change, adversity or self-doubt. Blending practical ideas with thoughtful reflection, we’ll focus on how adults can build trust quickly, model emotional recovery, and shape the stories children tell about themselves.
By the end of the session, staff will be able to:
- Respond to children in ways that rewrite limiting self-beliefs and promote self-worth
- Build trust and connection quickly, even in fast-changing or high-need settings
- Use consistent relational strategies to create emotional safety and reduce anxiety
- Repair relational ruptures confidently and model healthy emotional recovery
- Strengthen resilience through purposeful connection, problem-solving, and passion
- Work more cohesively as a team to create a culture of safety, belonging and belief
If you were there, I hope these are a helpful aide-memoire. If not, I hope they make enough sense without me to be useful. If you’d like to download them, you can do so via this page on Slideshare.
