Session Overview
Neurodivergent Burnout
Burnout is one of the most frightening things to witness in a child or young person. Skills you’d taken for granted disappear, the person you know becomes somehow unreachable, and the things that usually help often make it worse. This session is about understanding what burnout actually is, why it happens, and what genuinely helps, both in recovery and in building a more sustainable life. It was written for anyone walking alongside a neurodivergent child or young person, and it speaks to neurodivergent adults who recognise some of this in their own lives too.
What the session covers:
- Why burnout happens, and why it’s not a choice, a phase, or a failure
- How to spot the early warning signs before a full crash
- What actually helps in recovery, and what makes things worse
- How to reduce demands in ways that work for real families and schools
- How to think about prevention without it becoming another impossible task
