Session Overview
ADHD in Girls: Making the School Day Work
She’s late again, without her kit, and she’s been told off twice before she’s sat down. What nobody sees is that she heard the alarm, found the uniform, remembered it was PE and located the right room. Ten things went right this morning and one went wrong, and the one that went wrong is the only one anyone mentions. This session follows a girl with ADHD through her school day, from arriving and starting through to break, feedback and homework, and shows what’s actually happening at each point: she’s running by hand the things other brains run in the background, then managing how it feels when that fails. At every moment there’s something to try that takes under a minute and costs nothing.
What you’ll take away
- Why the things she’s brilliant at and the things she finds hard come from the same brain
- Why she’s doing manually what other brains do automatically, and what that’s already cost her before she reaches your door
- Why attention runs on interest and urgency rather than importance, and how to turn a distant deadline into something she can actually start
- How to get the first ten seconds right when she arrives late and flustered
- How to give feedback that doesn’t land as a verdict on her, and what to do in the five minutes afterwards
- How to keep the thinking hard whilst taking the organising, copying and remembering off it
