Session Overview
Autistic Friendly Classrooms in College
Most of us have done the awareness training and we mean well, but good intentions can still miss the learner who is quietly struggling in a room we thought was working. This session is about what comes next. It works through small, low cost changes to the way we communicate and set up our teaching spaces, the kind that hold up across a salon, a workshop, a studio or a classroom, with real attention to the learners who look fine on the surface and to helping autistic learners settle as they move into college and into new settings. The thread running through all of it is a simple one: if they could, they would.
You will come away able to:
- Spot the quieter signs that a learner is struggling
- Make small adjustments that work in any teaching space
- See why a tiny request can cost a learner so much
- Support autistic learners to settle into college and into new settings
- Start from “if they could, they would”
