INSET: Neurodivergence in the Classroom

These slides were developed for a recent INSET.

Here’s the session overview:

Neurodivergence in the Classroom: Overcoming Barriers to Student Success

This session is designed to empower you with the tools to better support neurodivergent students in the classroom. We will explore six key barriers that ND students commonly face—sensory overload, emotional regulation, executive function, processing speed, transitions, and social communication—helping you understand how these challenges impact learning. Each section will include first-person perspectives to aid understanding, followed by a range of practical strategies on a graduated scale, from simple adjustments to more intensive interventions. You will leave with a clear, actionable toolbox of strategies to help students thrive in a way that feels safe, supportive, and sustainable, ultimately enabling them to engage more fully in lessons.

If you were there, I hope these are a helpful aide-memoire. If not, I hope they make enough sense without me to be useful. If you’d like to download them, you can do so via this page on slideshare.
